Credit Freeze

What is a Credit Freeze?

Credit Freeze

A credit freeze is a measure an individual can take to prevent third parties from accessing their credit. When a credit freeze is enacted, that individual's personal financial data is no longer accessible by anyone, including credit agencies, banks, and other institutions. This can be used to prevent criminals from opening an account using someone's financial information (a tactic to prevent or stop suspected identity theft) or to simply prevent banks or lenders from viewing credit history. There is usually a fee to place a credit freeze on your information, and the freeze will last until the individual asks for it to be lifted.
