What is the FCRA?

The purpose of the FCRA, or Fair Credit Reporting Act, is to protect consumers. It does that by protecting the information contained in the consumer report, which can’t be provided to anyone who does not have a reason to view it as specified by the Act. Also, according to a provision within the Act, it is required that disputed information is investigated. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the agency whose purpose is free and fair competition in the marketplace, is responsible for enforcement of the Act.
