Many individuals and businesses are required to have licenses to perform certain services. For example, the medical field and construction field both require their professionals to be licensed. There are architect licenses, doctors licenses, lawyer licenses, and more. Most licenses are managed at the state level, but some, such as the pilot license, are governed at the federal level. Most of these licenses can be verified online so individuals can check that their service professionals have active licenses. Many sources also provide the type of license, issue date, effective date, active date, and current status of the license. Practicing a service without an active license may be considered either a felony or a misdemeanor, depending on the type of license and what services were rendered.
