Every country has a different governing body and set of requirements for pilot licenses. In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) oversees the testing and certification for all pilots. The level of certification required depends on the type of aircraft and type of flying. There are seven levels of certification. They start at Student Pilot and continue up to Airline Transport Pilot. Pilot licenses are one of several types of airmen certificates issued by the FAA. The airmen database is available online, for both download and individual search.
