Private investigators are trained professionals who may serve as employees or be contracted by firms, private businesses, law enforcement agencies or individual clients to investigate specific situations and/ or people. Often referred to as private detectives, these individuals employ their unique skills for a variety of tasks including conducting background checks, uncovering confidential or hidden information pertaining to legal, financial or personal matters and participating in solving crimes. While PI’s aren’t required to obtain a formal degree, most states require private investigators to obtain a license to practice.
