A search conducted to ascertain different types of property belonging to a business. Assets are usually classified in one of three categories including tangible, intangible, and intellectual. The most common way to determine a business’s assets is through bank records. It is also possible to use public records such as property records, motor vehicle registration, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings, civil litigation, divorce records, probate filings, corporate filings, and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings as part of an asset investigation.
