When applying for a job, most tech-savvy individuals know that many aspects of their lives will be scrutinized by the company they are hoping to work for, including their social media profiles. Many businesses run social media searches on prospective candidates to get a glimpse into these individuals' personal lives, and while social media searches often yield successful results, in other cases, these searches are fruitless because the candidate has reduced or covered up some of their online presence. A scrub rate refers to the percentage of individuals subjected to a social media search who have "scrubbed" their histories. In other words, these prospective employees have taken careful steps to delete or erase their social media presence or alter their settings so that only close friends and family members can access their profiles and posts.
