Description:

Join us for an insightful webinar titled “Risk-Based Approaches to Age Verification,” where industry experts from Enformion, Bureau.ID, and Liminal delve into the evolving landscape of age verification laws and the importance of adapting verification methods to meet the changing regulatory environment.

In the absence of federal legislation, states are taking matters into their own hands by enacting laws that mandate companies to update their age verification procedures. These laws aim to uphold privacy rights and protect children from accessing age-inappropriate content or products. Some regulations even specify the use of particular solutions, such as government-issued identity documentation verification paired with selfies, to verify age. However, concerns surrounding privacy, user friction, and first amendment rights have sparked interest in exploring alternative verification methods. For example, when states mandate age verification solutions for adult-content websites, organizations like the ACLU often file lawsuits citing 1st amendment rights, leading to delays in implementation until legal matters are resolved, complicating the choice for businesses to adopt solutions proactively or await lawsuit outcomes.

To navigate this complex regulatory landscape, several authorities have published age verification standards, such as the “ISO Working Draft Age Assurance Systems Standard” and the British Standards Institute’s “Online age checking. Provision and use of online age check services. Code of Practice.” These standards advocate for a risk-based approach to age verification, where the level of assurance is calibrated based on the potential risk to children associated with accessing a particular product or service. This means that the level of verification required may vary depending on the perceived risk, with lower-risk scenarios necessitating less stringent verification methods.

In this webinar, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with traditional age verification methods, such as government-issued IDs and selfies, including privacy concerns and user friction. The webinar will also shed light on the potential of innovative approaches like biometric age estimation and database checks to enhance the accuracy and user experience of age verification processes.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of age verification and learn how your organization can adapt to meet regulatory requirements while maintaining a user-friendly experience. Register now to secure your spot at the webinar.
